LapLink Inc., the leading Internet file-transfer and synchronization software developer, today
launched PCsync 2.0, providing the home and small-business software market a complete software and
hardware solution for fast and easy file transfer and migration.
At a retail price of $99.95, PCsync 2.0 builds on its strong heritage of rapid file transfer and
file synchronization. In this new version of PCsync 2.0, users can manage and transfer their MP3
files, remotely access files on their computer from an Internet browser, and transfer their
computer's personality and application settings to a new PC. PCsync 2.0 also features a new
expandable USB Network Cable that is capable of transferring files at 5Mbps, over twelve times
faster than a serial cable and over three times faster than a T1 line.
Two exciting new features of version 2.0 are Surf Up and MusicMoverTM. "We developed Surf Up in
response to customers wanting a way to access their files from any Internet terminal around the
world. Surf Up allows the user to retrieve that critical presentation at a remote office," says
Mark Eppley, LapLink's founder and CEO. "In response to the worldwide growth of MP3 file usage,
MusicMover was developed as the ultimate MP3 file and playlist manager.
It enables the user to transfer MP3 files to other users, keeping the playlist intact."Since its
debut last October, PCsync has helped thousands of customers manage and transfer their files from
one PC to another PC. More and more customers are buying a second computer for their home.
According to IDC, 85% of home computer purchases in 2000 were repeat purchases. These consumers
face the daunting challenge of setting up their new PC with the files and settings from their old
PC. Many users engage in the time-consuming task of transferring files with floppy disks, which
could take hours. PCsync provides a migration wizard that lets the user transfer their computer's
files and personality settings quickly and easily.
"The consumer may initially buy PCsync 2.0 to transfer their files and personality to a new
computer, but very quickly it becomes their must-have utility for file transfer and ongoing
synchronization," says Mr. Eppley. "It has tremendous value because it not only provides PC
migration, but it also a provides a fast and easy solution for file transfer and remote file access
for everyday use."
Built on its reputation of rapid file transfer, file sharing, and synchronization using
LapLink's patented SpeedSync technology, PCsync combines new features, equipping the user with all
the necessary tools for complete file management.
What's New In PCsync 2.0 MusicMover --- PCsync's MusicMover
is an MP3 playlist manager and MP3 file transfer utility. Users can easily organize all of their
music files, then transfer their play lists to another computer, or share them with friends, family
and co-workers who are also running PCsync. MusicMover also allows users to play selected songs as
playlists instantly through any MP3 player on their PC. Forrester Research predicts by next year,
music enthusiasts will have 1.1 billion music files on their computer hard drives.
PCMover --- Rather than waste time re-creating user
personality settings on a new PC, PCMover does it all quickly and easily. PCMover allows users to
migrate their desktop, network, OS settings; Internet Explorer and Netscape browser settings
(bookmarks and favorites) and Outlook Express settings (contacts, calendar, and more).
Surf Up --- Surf Up allows a user to view their computer's
PCsync shared folder from any remote PC running Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 6.0 (or later
versions). Simply connect to LapLink's Web site on the Internet at http://www.laplink.com/surfup,
and in several easy steps a user can connect and access their files from their remote PC.
Expandable USB Network Cable --- Over twelve times faster
than a serial cable and over three times faster than a T1 line, LapLink's next generation USB cable
transfers files at speeds over five megabits per second between two PCs. This six and half foot
cable can be expanded up to 80 feet (extensions sold separately). Status and activity lights are
also built into this cable.
Additional Networking Options --- PCsync allows users on a
LAN or WAN network environment to share and transfer files quickly and easily with other PCsync
users on the same network.
Over 40 improvements --- With version 2.0 of PCsync,
LapLink collected feedback from its customers and incorporated many of the suggestions to improve
PCsync's usability.
